Golf Courses Near Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport sits in Ingliston, just west of the city, with a dense cluster of golf courses within 15–20 minutes' drive in almost every direction. If you're flying in for a golf trip, you can be on a tee within 30 minutes of collecting your hire car. Here's what's nearby.

Within 10 minutes of the airport

Marriott Dalmahoy — 5 miles east

Two courses on the Dalmahoy estate: the East (par 70, 6,677 yards) and the West (shorter, parkland). Visitor-friendly, good facilities, full hotel and restaurant. Green fees £40–£75 depending on season and course. Worth calling ahead; the East fills quickly on weekends.

Ratho Park — 3 miles south

A quiet, mature parkland that most visitors drive past. Founded in 1928, 18 holes, par 69. Green fees around £35–£45 for visitors on weekdays. Pleasant rather than spectacular, but a solid round 10 minutes from departures. Visitor booking by phone.

Royal Burgess Golfing Society — 5 miles southeast

One of the oldest golf clubs in the world (founded 1735). Parkland, in good condition, visitors welcome Tuesday and Thursday afternoons by arrangement. Green fee around £60. The clubhouse is worth the visit on its own. Call ahead — it's a members' club.

10–20 minutes from the airport

Braid Hills — 10 miles southeast

Edinburgh Leisure's flagship. Two 18-hole courses with panoramic views over the city. No membership required, walk-up tee times available. Green fees £18–£28. The best-value round near Edinburgh. The No. 1 course is the serious one; No. 2 is shorter and more forgiving.

Silverknowes — 6 miles east (by coast)

Edinburgh Leisure parkland on the Firth of Forth shoreline near Cramond village. 18 holes, flat, exposed to sea wind. Booking through the Edinburgh Leisure portal. Green fees from £22.

Carrick Knowe — 5 miles east

Edinburgh Leisure parkland in the Stenhouse area. Flat, tree-lined, par 70. The most straightforward of the EL 18-hole courses — good for a post-flight round. Green fees from £18.

Craigentinny — 9 miles east

Edinburgh Leisure parkland between Leith and Portobello. 18 holes, often quieter than the Braids on weekday mornings. Green fees from £18.

Portobello — 10 miles east

Edinburgh Leisure 9-hole municipal in Portobello Park. Short, walkable, the cheapest 18-hole equivalent (play it twice) in the city. Green fees from £14.

Murrayfield — 4 miles east

Private club but takes visitors on weekdays. Parkland, pleasant views, greens in genuinely good nick. Green fee around £40–£50. Call the office to confirm availability.

If you're prepared for 30 minutes on the A1, East Lothian opens up the best links golf accessible from Edinburgh airport:

  • Gullane No. 1 — Classic links, KD 22 in the research, green fee around £80–£95
  • Musselburgh Old Links — 9 holes, the oldest playing course in the world, £15–£20
  • Luffness New — Quiet links, warm welcome to visitors, around £65–£80
  • Craigielaw — Modern links design, full visitor access, £50–£75

Practical notes

Car hire: The airport has all major rental companies. Most courses are not accessible by public transport from the terminal — a car is the practical option.

Booking: Most courses near the airport accept online or telephone booking. Don't turn up at a members' club without calling first.

Tee time availability: Weekday mornings are easiest. Weekend mornings at the municipal courses fill up; afternoon slots are more available.

The advantage of Edinburgh Airport's location is that you don't have to choose between budget and quality. Both are within reach of the car park.
