Privacy Policy
Last updated 24 April 2026. This policy is a plain-English summary of how we handle your data. If anything isn't clear, email us and we'll rewrite it.
Who we are
Birdie Brae is a Scottish golf editorial site operated as a sole proprietorship based in Glasgow, Scotland. We are the data controller for any personal data you share with us. You can contact us at hello@birdiebrae.co.uk.
What we collect
We only collect data we actually need:
- Your email address if you subscribe to our newsletter. We pass it to our email provider (MailerLite) so we can send you the Sunday Post.
- Your name if you give it to us in the newsletter form or send us an email. This is optional.
- Aggregate site analytics from Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights — page views, approximate region, referrer, performance metrics. We use the cookieless mode; we do not set any tracking cookies or share data with advertisers.
We do not use cookies for advertising. We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Legal basis
We process your newsletter subscription on the basis of your consent (which you give when you submit the form). You can withdraw consent any time — there's an unsubscribe link on every email.
We process aggregate analytics on the basis of legitimate interest — we need to understand how many people visit the site and whether it's working. Because the data is cookieless and non-identifying, this does not require consent under UK GDPR / PECR.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe.
- Emails you've sent us: for as long as we might reasonably need to reply or keep a record of a correction. Typically deleted within 12 months.
- Analytics: aggregated and retained by Vercel per their data retention policy.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- Confirm what personal data we hold about you.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Export your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent for anything we're doing on a consent basis.
Email us at hello@birdiebrae.co.uk with your request. We'll respond within a month. If we can't help you to your satisfaction, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Third-party services we use
- MailerLite — newsletter sending. Stores your email address. Their privacy policy: mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Vercel — hosting + analytics. Their privacy policy: vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- OpenStreetMap — the course finder map loads tile images from the OpenStreetMap Foundation. Their privacy policy: wiki.osmfoundation.org.
Changes to this policy
We'll update the “last updated” date at the top when anything meaningful changes. If it's a material change, we'll mention it in the next Sunday Post.
