Scotland's most easterly golf club, on the North Sea coast north of Cruden Bay.

From the Notebook

Peterhead Golf Club is generally considered the most easterly golf club on the Scottish mainland — a links on the North Sea coast above Peterhead harbour, 30 miles north of Cruden Bay. The Lido Course, the 18-hole championship layout, was substantially redesigned by James Braid in 1935 and runs along the dune ground between the town and the sea.

Par 70, around 6,100 yards. The course has the character typical of the northeast links: firm, fast, and wind-exposed in ways that make the standard scratch score considerably harder to match than the yardage suggests. The North Sea is present on the eastern holes in sound and salt air even when it is not visible; the routing uses the dune ridges to create variety in direction and exposure.

Green fee is £40–55. Visitor access is good; the club is accustomed to golfers making the Aberdeenshire coastal circuit and the tee sheet reflects this. The natural Aberdeenshire sequence is Cruden Bay (£165) on day one and a Peterhead/Royal Tarlair combination (£90–120 combined) on day two — covering three distinct northeast links on the same stretch of coast at a cumulative cost that represents extraordinary value for the standard of golf.

Plan This Round

Three things to sort before you tee off.

Played here? Consider

Three things worth packing.

Course-tuned recommendations, not generic gear lists.

Outerwear

Galvin Green Andres jacket

Wind off the firth changes club selection two irons. A breathable, fully-waterproof shell that's light enough not to swing in is the single biggest upgrade for Scottish links golf.

Layer

Sunderland of Scotland half-zip

Scottish-made merino — the locals' choice for shoulder-season rounds. Warm enough for a 7am tee time in October, light enough for the back nine when the sun comes out.

Tech

Garmin Approach S70 GPS

Handles blind tee shots and exposed-coastal yardage cleanly. Battery lasts a 36-hole day; the wind-direction overlay justifies the price on its own.
