Group booking note
Play the Struie on arrival day (groups of 8+ get preferential morning starting). Golspie and Brora are both excellent and cost roughly a tenth of the Championship. Save the Championship for the last day. Nothing about this trip is quick, but nothing about it is forgettable either.
Where to stay
Where to stay: base yourself in Dornoch
Dornoch is a small town with a big course, and its bed stock is the tightest of any trip here — the Royal Golf Hotel and Links House sit beside the first tee, and self-catering in town books out early for summer. Reserve accommodation before you confirm the tee sheet, not after. If Dornoch itself is full, spread north up the coast — Golspie, Brora and the Moray Firth towns (Lossiemouth is an hour east) all have rooms and self-catering, and you're playing Golspie and Brora anyway, so a base up there is no detour.
A group of 8–16 splitting one house is usually the cheapest way to do this trip. Compare self-catering cottages near Dornoch on Snaptrip. We earn a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you.
