Dalmuir Golf Course

Dalmuir is the 18-hole parkland course above the Clyde at Clydebank, seven miles west of Glasgow city centre, and it is one of the few Scottish municipals whose story ended well. West Dunbartonshire Council pulled its funding in the March 2025 budget — the second time in a decade the course had faced closure. Four clubs that play there, Clydebank Overtoun, Radnor Park, Kilbowie and the Clydebank Seniors, put together a community asset transfer instead. The council's committee approved it on 5 June 2025 and the new body took a three-year lease from 1 July at a rent of £1 a year. It has been run by volunteers ever since.

The course is a hilly parkland of over 5,000 yards that climbs away from the river, and the climb is the point: the views back over West Dunbartonshire are the best thing about a round here, and the short holes are better than the yardage suggests. The 14th, The Gully, has a long-standing reputation as one of the hardest par 3s in the country — the Dumbartonshire Golf Union still describes it that way. It is not a course anyone flies in for. It is a course you play on a Tuesday evening for less than the price of a takeaway.

Green fees are £13.50 on weekdays and £16.50 at weekends, which puts Dalmuir among the cheapest 18-hole rounds anywhere near Glasgow — cheaper on a weekday than either Glasgow Life municipal. It is a ten-minute walk from Dalmuir station on the Argyle and North Clyde lines, so it is one of the genuinely car-free rounds in the west. Book through the club's own site.
