Historic Lanarkshire parkland. One of the older clubs in the county.

From the Notebook

Hamilton Golf Club is one of the older golf clubs in South Lanarkshire, founded in 1892 in the parkland on the edge of Hamilton — historically one of Scotland's most important market and industrial towns and home to Hamilton Racecourse, the only horse racing facility in the immediate area of Glasgow.

Par 70, 6,279 yards. The course is a mature tree-lined parkland using the natural contours of the Cadzow estate ground, with several holes alongside the River Avon. The 4th runs closest to the river, a par 4 where anything short-right of the green collects into the slope above the Avon bank — a penalty that doesn't show up on the card but shows up on the scorecard. The 15th, the longest par 3 on the course, plays uphill to a well-defended green that rejects anything that doesn't carry the front bunker cleanly. The routing provides genuine variety across the 18 holes; conditioning is consistently good for a club of this scale.

Visitor green fee is £35. Hamilton is useful for visitors based in the Hamilton, Motherwell, and East Kilbride area who want a private club round without committing to the Ayrshire drive. The Strathclyde Country Park (Strathclyde Park Golf Course, 5 minutes north) provides a budget public alternative; Hamilton Golf Club is the proper private club option at a very reasonable visitor rate.

Plan This Round

Three things to sort before you tee off.

Played here? Consider

Three things worth packing.

Picked for parkland rounds in Scotland.

Outerwear

Galvin Green Aldous jacket

The mid-weight option for parkland — fully waterproof but lighter than the wind-spec links jackets. Packs into a back-pocket pouch when the sun comes out.

Layer

Castore performance polo

Scotland's premium sportswear name. Cut for a swing rather than a jog; the moisture-wicking suits warmer parkland rounds where the wind isn't doing the work.

Tech

Bushnell Tour V6 rangefinder

Tree-lined parkland holes are exactly the situation where a rangefinder pays for itself. The V6's slope mode is allowed in any non-tournament round.

Frequently Asked

Visitors usually want to know.

Can visitors play at weekends?
Visitors are welcome but mid-week is markedly easier and quieter. Confirm a weekend tee time as far ahead as you can — popular Saturdays book up first.
How early can I book a tee time?
Phone or email the pro shop to confirm. Most Scottish clubs accept visitor bookings 7–30 days ahead; group bookings of 8+ can be arranged further ahead.
Is there a dress code?
Smart casual, collared shirts. Soft only.
Are buggies allowed?
Yes, available at the pro shop. Most members walk with a trolley though — the course is genuinely walkable.
What's the best time of year to play?
May, Jun, Jul, Aug, Sep for full conditions. Late May and early Sep are quietest with fair value. Year-round.

The Sunday Post

A good round, a fair fee, and a story from the clubhouse.

One email, most Sundays. No affiliate spam, no drip funnel, no nonsense. Just the tee time we'd book this week, the muni we'd play before work, and one piece of Scottish golf history worth the read.
