Plate II — Parkland course — tree-lined fairways, year-round play
Municipal parkland beside the Caledonian Canal. The cheapest 18 holes in Inverness.
Torvean Golf Club is the municipal option in Inverness — managed by High Life Highland on the south bank of the Caledonian Canal, a 20-minute walk from the city centre. Par 69, flat parkland, inexpensive and usually available without booking far ahead. The canal towpath runs adjacent to part of the course; the setting is pleasant in a way that few municipal facilities manage.
At £25 for 18 holes, Torvean serves the function that well-run municipal golf should: it gives visitors and locals a full round at a price that doesn't require a decision. For a visitor based in Inverness who wants a morning round before driving north, or who has a half-day and doesn't want to pay castle Stuart prices, Torvean is the answer. The course is flat enough to be walkable without effort and maintained to a standard above what the price suggests.
Booking is through High Life Highland's online system or by phone. Torvean is often quiet on weekday mornings when Inverness Golf Club has member competition. The two courses represent the two tiers of Inverness golf: one a traditional members' club at moderate visitor prices, the other a Highland Council facility at budget prices. Both are within 20 minutes' walk of the city centre. For most transit visitors, Torvean is the practical choice.

Outerwear
The mid-weight option for parkland — fully waterproof but lighter than the wind-spec links jackets. Packs into a back-pocket pouch when the sun comes out.
Layer
Scotland's premium sportswear name. Cut for a swing rather than a jog; the moisture-wicking suits warmer parkland rounds where the wind isn't doing the work.
Tech
Tree-lined parkland holes are exactly the situation where a rangefinder pays for itself. The V6's slope mode is allowed in any non-tournament round.
