Build the trip on courses you can actually book: the New and Jubilee take group reservations through St Andrews Links, Kingsbarns handles groups directly, and the Craigtoun (the old Duke's, now run by the Links Trust) is the inland fourth day. Enter the Old Course daily ballot every evening you're in town — if someone's number comes up, that's the story of the trip, but never plan around it.

Base yourself in St Andrews
St Andrews accommodation is the most contested in Scottish golf — the town's hotels and guest houses fill far ahead for summer, and anything walkable to the links carries a premium. Book the beds before the tee times. Groups on a budget do well basing just outside: Leuchars and Guardbridge are ten minutes away, and the East Neuk villages twenty — with a car, you lose nothing. A town-centre base earns its money on the evenings: the whole group can walk to dinner, the pubs and the ballot queue.
