At the confluence of the Teviot and the Tweed in Kelso — where the two rivers meet in one of the broader valleys of the eastern Borders — Kelso Golf Club has been operating since 1887. Par 70, 6,066 yards through parkland and riverside ground with the characteristic Borders combination of mature trees, agricultural fields at the boundary, and the river terrain that produces well-drained surfaces through the season.
The course is within sight of Floors Castle — the seat of the Duke of Roxburghe, which faces the course across the adjacent parkland — giving the round a visual context that straightforward parkland golf rarely achieves. The 14th and 15th holes use the riverside ground most effectively, with the Tweed audible beyond the boundary hedge. Kelso is the most traditional Borders market town in the region, with a substantial agricultural produce market and a town square of considerable Georgian dignity.
Green fee £25–40. Kelso pairs naturally with The Roxburghe (4 miles west) for a Borders weekend — the private estate course at The Roxburghe Hotel represents the premium end of Borders golf, while Kelso provides the historic club alternative at half the price. The combination gives a good sense of what Borders golf offers across the price spectrum.
